Institute of Materials Science was known as Institute of
Physical Electronics till Feb 1, 2010. The Institute of Physical Electronics was
founded in 1994 after the reorganization of the Scientific Center of
Semiconductor Microelectronics "Microlira" of Kaunas Institute of Radio
Measurement Technique. In 2003, the Institute was reorganized into a Research
Institute, having the status of the University Institute. Functions of the
founder were entrusted to Kaunas University of Technology. Institute was fully
integrated into Kaunas University of Technology by resolution of Government of
Lithuania in 2010. Currently the Institute of Physical Electronics, has
32
employers and houses facilities of a total area of 1100 m2 located in
the city of Kaunas in Lithuania. The activities of the Institute are permanently
directed toward scientific research and applied works, development of new
advanced technologies. The research activities are carried out in collaboration

Technology, with other Universities, scientific institutions and industrial
partners of Lithuania. The Institute is equipped with up-to-day scientific
technological and analytical equipment. It makes possible to carry out research
in the fields of solid-state physics, surface analysis, microelectronics,
materials science and chemical analysis. The staff of the Institute participates
